All-Clad 10" Frying Pan: Delaminating
I just got my All-Clad set this summer (about 3 or so months ago) and the 10" pan is delaminating (layers separating).
You can see the bubbly strip which extends around 1/2 of the perimeter.
I've never let it dry heat more than a couple minutes, and my IR temperature gun tells me the surface reaches about 130 degrees when I put the oil in. Also, I've never put it in the oven. So, I'm sure it has not been over heated.
Has anyone else had this problem? Or, any idea what caused it? K. recalls from undergrad days that you don't need a very strong bond to hold together metal at cooking temps. So, that leads me to think it is a manufacturing error (ie, improper bond).
I read a few user reports of a similiar thing, and apparently All-Clad's customer service was horrible. I'm not looking forward to contacting them...
(As an aside, this cookware replaced my Martha Stewart Everyday tri-ply aluminum/stainless cookware I bought at K-Mart for $149. I used and abused that set for 9 years and this never happened. Is it actually possible that some cheap, crappy, made-in-China cookware is of higher quality than pricey, American-made All-Clad???)
UPDATE: 11/20/09 - contacted All-Clad customer service via e-mail for information on returning the pan under warranty service. We'll see what they say.
UPDATE: 11/29/09 - No response from All-Clad yet.
UPDATE: 1/13/2010 - Contacted them again. They now send me marketing e-mails, so I know my e-mail went through. ALL CLAD SUCKS.
UPDATE: 3/27/2010 - Contacted AGAIN.
UPDATE: 4/15/2010 - Still no response. I officially give up.
Le Creuset 12-piece Stainless Steel Cookware Set
Our new cookware set, plus a pasta strainer insert & a steamer insert w/lid. It's beautiful and we're really happy with the performance so far, it cleans up like a dream, much better than our Calphalon One Infused Anodized did. We also contemplated All-Clad, but I didn't like the handles comfort-wise and the LC has the rounded edge for easy spill-proof pouring. Another neat feature: the handles on the pots act as a lid holder, very clever! And the best part - lifetime warranty!
all clad stainless cleaning
Why stop grilling just because summer's over? You can enjoy the intense flavor and low-fat benefits of grilling all year with this great double burner grill pan. How about some lamb burgers with grilled red peppers and feta cheese?
Distinguished among All-Clad's renowned cookware collections by its stylish charcoal black hard anodized-aluminum exterior, the LTD line provides serious and professional cooks with all the virtues that make All-Clad's worldwide reputation unsurpassed. Key to its high performance is a three-ply, bonded construction. Sandwiched between the exterior and the interior lies a thick core of pure aluminum that spreads heat evenly across the bottoms of pots and pans and all the way up the sides. The striking exterior resists scratching, chipping, and peeling. Certain pieces, like this one, have two interior layers, one of 18/10 stainless steel and the other of scratch-resistant, professional-grade nonstick bonded to the steel.
This enormous stovetop grill pan makes clear the appeal of All-Clad's LTD cookware to contemporary cooks. It's 20 inches long and 13 inches wide, perfect for grilling a dozen big burgers or eight T-bone steaks and searing them with appetizing-looking grill marks. Because the grill's cooking surface is durable nonstick, you can grill healthful meals without using butter or oil and you'll have an easier cleanup. Polished 18/10 stainless-steel handles are riveted to the grill for strength, provide 2 inches of space to accommodate big hands, and stay cool on the stovetop. LTD cookware carries a lifetime warranty against defects and should be hand washed. --Fred Brack
